Writing Groups

ARTSWORDS Writers' Café & Kitchen
A meeting place for new writers, experienced writers, and anyone interested in writing to meet, greet, and connect.

Usually, every last Thursday of the month at Lower Shaw Farm. Open between 7pm until 10pm   Cost: £2

The Cafe starts with pot-luck supper from 7pm. If you can, please bring something to nibble or drink, and to share with others.

Following acclimatisation with food, drink, and friendly chat, we take time to look at our writing, hear it, and comment where wanted.

You may simply read your work, prose or poetry, for up to 5 minutes; or, if you have a story, to tell, not read, and ideally a story from your life, please bring it along and tell it; or, if you’d like your work to be the subject of helpful comments and discussion, and this is the ‘Kitchen’ part of the Café, bring 10 copies of one piece of writing to pass around and read out. This should amount to no more than 500 words of prose or 40 lines of poetry.

ARTSWORDS Mum's the Word Writing Group
at Lower Shaw Farm

Mum’s the Word is a writing group for mothers who want to write and who want to discover more about how to put ideas and experiences into words and see them in print.

Mum’s the Word welcomes all mothers, especially those who always wanted to write but for whom, understandably, the role of parent has been so absorbing and duty-filled that writing has had to take a back seat. Well, now creative writing, storytelling, playing with words and making them work for you get proper attention and a seat at the front!   Come and join them!  Everyone welcome, even if you think yourself ‘a complete beginner’.

Mum’s the Word is a friendly and helpful group, with companionship and guidance.

Mum’s the Word likes to produce an annual collection of its members’ writing. It has presented these at the Swindon Festival of Literature.

Mum’s the Word meets monthly, sometimes more often, at 7.30pm, usually on a Tuesday, at Lower Shaw Farm.
